Douglas Martin is well known as one of the preeminent trust and estate and business planning attorneys in all of Southern California.

Doug’s practice emphasizes the areas of estate and tax planning, family and charitable trusts, probate administration, commercial and residential real estate, limited liability companies, and small closely held businesses.

Doug was admitted to the California State Bar in 1963, and has been practicing law for more than 50 years. Known for his dedication to the needs of his clients and colleagues alike, Doug has over his many years of practice developed such a highly regarded expertise in the trust and estate, business planning and real estate areas of law that he is frequently referred complex matters from a wide variety of sources, including other eminent attorneys, Certified Public Accountants, trust officers, private fiduciaries, and a host of well-respected financial institutions.

Doug will be the first to tell you that his success is attributable in large part to his loyal staff of professionals, including paralegal Carol Moreno, who as a group take a personal interest in each and every client as they have done for the better part of 40 years.

The drafter of hundreds of estate planning documents over his many years in practice, to his knowledge Doug has never had a trust of his creation contested in Court.  Doug’s preference is to work with families on their estate planning.  Often this means interacting with three generations of a family.

Doug is a graduate of Stanford University and Loyola Law School, Los Angeles. Doug also earned a Certificate of Graduate Study in Taxation from the University of Southern California Law Center.

While at Stanford, Doug competed as a nationally ranked athlete in cross-country/track and field for all four years of his college career. Doug has throughout his life shown an encouraging enthusiasm for sport and community involvement, as reflected in his lifelong support of youth athletic programs, particularly in golf and cross-country running. Doug’s dedication to his local community reflects that same, ever-positive energy and commitment. A longtime Board member of the McCallum Theatre, Doug and his wife, Donna, were recently awarded a “Star” on the McCallum Walk of Fame, in recognition of their personal and philanthropic efforts in support of this cornerstone cultural institution of the Coachella Valley. Doug currently is a member of: the McCallum Theatre Board of Trustees;  the Tools for Tomorrow Board of Directors; and the Loyola Marymount University Gift Planning Advisory Council.

A consummate professional with an unwavering love of the law, Doug believes that a good practitioner is always learning and engaged in the study of his craft. Doug is thus a member of the Estate Planning and Probate Law Sections of the American Bar Association, the California State Bar and the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Desert Bar Association, and the Coachella Valley’s Desert Estate Planning Council.

Doug himself is a frequent lecturer for local client seminars, charitable organizations and estate planning trade groups.
